Business | The Newark Arts Parade

The Newark Arts Parade is poised to become a signature event promoting a positive image for the City of Newark.

First launched in 2008 as a kick-off for the Newark Arts Council’s Open Doors Festival, the Newark Arts Parade, a collaborative effort between the Barat Foundation, the Newark Arts Council, the Newark Public Schools (Office of Visual and Performing Arts), and various community groups; is rapidly becoming a Newark tradition. The colorful parade brings together thousands of Newark children, teachers, members of the workforce, the Newark University community, the City Police, Fire, and Department of Neighborhoods, and the Newark Bears, along with community volunteers to create unique and eye-catching mobile art exhibits the Barat Foundation has affectionately named “Animodules” ™. These spectacular sculptures march down Broad Street to celebrate Newark’s Renaissance – bringing together the entire city in an explosion of creativity and festivity, accompanied by the children of Newark, marching bands, colorful banners, and welcoming fans.

The Barat Foundation has created a hub of community collaboration in the heart of downtown Newark, featuring arts in education programs for the city’s youth, providing positive, life-changing experiences ensuring resiliency, and encouraging personal, artistic, and academic growth.
